De “Taxi Charity for Military Veterans” is begonnen in Fulham in 1948. Het doel van Taxi Charity For Military Veterans was, om de veteranen uit de tweede wereldoorlog te helpen, in hun eigen huis of in de ziekenhuizen door heel Londen. Hierbij werd gezorgd voor entertainment, uitstapjes en de zo benodigde speciale apparatuur.

Het doel nu is simpel: zo goed als we kunnen te werken ten gunste, plezier en comfort van de veteranen die betrokken waren bij alle militaire conflicten waar ook ter wereld.

Voor de jaarlijkse uitstapjes halen we de veteranen op vanuit heel Londen, inclusief het Royal Hospital Chelsea en andere locaties voor veteranen, alsmede diegenen die nog zelfstandig wonen.Om deze uitstapjes te kunnen realiseren , zijn wij afhankelijk van donaties van particulieren en bedrijven, wij vertrouwen ook op de vrijwillige Londense taxi chauffeurs die hun eigen taxi’s en vrije tijd ter beschikking stellen om te veteranen daar te brengen waar nodig.

De afgelopen jaren hebben we veel gasten kunnen ontvangen waar we heel trots op zijn zoals bijvoorbeeld: HRH Princess Alexandra, HRH Prince Philip, HRH Duchess of Kent, Sir Douglas Bader, Group Captain Leonard Cheshire VC en veel beroemdheden van televisie, sport and theatre. We zijn er dan ook trots op dat het doel waarvoor Taxi Charity For Military Veterans is gestart in 1948 nog steeds springlevend is tot de dag van vandaag. We zullen hiermee doorgaan zolang er mensen in de taxi industrie zijn, die bereid zijn om hun taxi, vrije tijd en energie in te zetten om diegene te helpen die zoveel gegeven hebben voor hun vaderland.

Wij willen iedereen bedanken die ons, over de jaren zo genereus steunen, alsmede de vrijwillige taxi chauffeurs. Zonder jullie zou Taxi Charity For Military Veterans ziet kunnen bestaan.

Wij ondersteunen deze vrijwilligers door de verkoop van de keramieken poppy hanger en onze pin(s). De winst op deze artikelen gaat in zijn geheel naar Taxi Charity For Military Veterans!
De poppy hanger is gemaakt van keramiek en met de hand beschilderd door mensen met een achterstand tot de arbeidsmarkt. Ze worden dus Fairtrade gemaakt waarbij het mes snijdt aan twee kanten.
Door op de poppy hanger of hartenstein pin te klikken komt u op de pagina terecht waar u hem kunt aanschaffen.

De Hartenstein pin is bedacht door Jacoline Rutgers van BeetjeBinnenBuiten en getekend door de bekende Oosterbeekse striptekenaar Henny Vaessen. Henny heeft meerdere stripboeken gemaakt met als thema de tweede wereldoorlog. Er zijn in totaal 3 pins ontworpen waarvan deze de eerste is. De tweede (welke nog onder embargo is) verschijnt begin 2024 ter gelegenheid van 80 jaar Market Garden en de derde (ook nog onder embargo) verschijnt in 2025 in het kader van 80 jaar bevrijding. De totale winst van deze pins gaat ook naar Taxi Charity For Military Veterans.

Wij willen op deze manier ons steentje bijdragen aan het goede werk wat deze vrijwilligers organisatie doet.
De Engelse veteranen ondersteunen en begeleiden naar de verschillende herdenkingen in eigen land maar ook in Europa.

Welcome to the Taxi Charity:
The Taxi Charity For Military Veterans (formerly known as the London Taxi Benevolent Association For War Disabled) was formed in Fulham in 1948.
Its object then was to help WWII veterans, in their homes and hospitals, throughout London and the home counties, by providing entertainment, outings and much needed specialised equipment.

Our aim now is simple: to work for the benefit, comfort and enjoyment of military veterans from all conflicts, to the best of our ability.

For our annual Worthing outing, we collect veterans from all over London, including the Royal Hospital Chelsea and other veterans’ homes, as well as those who live in their own homes.

In order to fund these outings, we seek donations from the general public and organisations, and we rely on volunteer London licensed taxi drivers to provide their taxis and time for free.
Over the past years, we have been fortunate enough, to be honoured with many guests, including HRH Princess Alexandra, HRH Prince Philip, HRH Duchess of Kent, Sir Douglas Bader,
Group Captain Leonard Cheshire VC and many celebrities of TV, sport and theatre.

We are proud to say that those aims that were started back in 1948 are still alive to this present day and will continue as long as people within the taxi trade are willing to give their time and energy
to help those who have given so much for their country.

We would like to thank all the people, who, over the years, have given generously to this worthy cause, and all the volunteer taxi drivers. without who the charity would not be able to operate.

We support this Charity by selling poppy hangers en and pins. The profit from each sale is donated to the Taxi Charity For Military Veterans.
The poppy hanger is fair-trade and handmade from ceramics by people with a distance to the labor market.

The pin with the picture from Hartenstein, which was a hotel restaurant during WWO ll. Now it is a very beautiful museum. Jacoline Rutgers from webshop www.beetjebinnenbuiten.nl. had the idea to make a pin
and together with cartoonist Henny Vaessen they designed three different pins, this pin from Hartenstein is from 2023. Next year 2024 there will be a pin for 80 years Market Garden. In 2025 a pin for 80 years freedom.
